14th MarchIceland Trip 2025
From the 18th - 22nd of February, a group of A level Geography students travelled to Iceland for a packed week of exploring the country’s beauty and stunning landscapes. We were so lucky to be able to explore the unique country over the course of the four days that we were there and the teachers and our tour guide made the experience even more special.
After landing in Reykjavik, we began our trip at the Perlan museum where we were able to explore a real ice cave- an amazing experience which can’t be seen anywhere else, starting the trip off on a high! On the second day, we were extremely lucky to be able to visit the Secret Lagoon where we had the opportunity to swim in a naturally heated, geothermal pool. Along with this, we were able to visit the Geysir Geothermal Area, displaying the power of nature with incredible eruptions of water roughly every eight minutes, leaving us amazed. We were also able to see Thingvellir National Park where we had an unforgettable opportunity to walk between two tectonic plates, along with being able to discover more about the interesting history of Iceland at the site of the world’s first Parliament.
Some of the highlights of the third day included the lava centre- an interesting and educational experience, learning more about the many volcanoes in Iceland, the Hellisheioi Power Plant, and the Raufarholshellir Lava Tunnel. The Lava Tunnel was an incomparable experience where we were able to explore beautiful and old caves which were formed by lava a very long time ago, allowing us to have the chance to experience true darkness for the first time for many of us when all of the lights were turned off briefly.
Personally, my highlight of the trip was on day four, where we were able to participate in a glacier walk on Solheimajokull, providing us with incredible views of the impressive glacier and beautiful landscape. Along with this, on day four, we also visited Reynishverfi Beach, allowing us to experience the unique black sand of the beach and the extremely large and powerful waves, leaving us in awe of the power of nature. We were also able to walk behind the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, meaning we got to have a different view of the waterfall, getting to admire its beauty from a different perspective.
Unfortunately, on day five, we had to travel home and leave behind an incredible country. We were all in awe of Iceland and I am so grateful for the opportunity to explore such a breathtaking place. Even though I haven’t been able to mention every experience, there wasn't a single experience over the course of the trip which wasn’t amazing. To top off our trip, we were lucky enough to get to see the Northern Lights on our final night, making the trip even more special and sending us home after the most memorable trip.
